Scraps from the Attic
My father was from the Great Depression generation. He’d rarely throw anything away, believing it will be useful at some point and the heaps of empty containers filling his attic rarely found reuse. But, if you needed a glass jar, by golly you had one. It’s a trait I tend to emulate to a lesser degree and it spills over into my work.
I’ll do sketches and, finished renderings that I don’t use, but throw into a bin (or digital folder), thinking they may be useful in the future because, “by golly…” Well, here’s a case in point of that phenomenon. The drawing pictured I had done in the 20-teens as a workup for another cartoon during the Obama administration that dealt
with tensions in Iraq — leftovers from the Bush father and son administrations. Earlier today, I ran across it and thought the elements may be useful for recent events with the Iran war. So, here’s what came out of this regurgitated opus, entitled, “Mission FUBAR.”
